006 EARTH AND SKY
Agate Fossil Beds National Monument, Nebraska. On this day in early June, blue sky and cloud shadows stretched from horizon to horizon across the shortgrass prairie of Agate Fossil Beds National Monument. Western Nebraska is at the eastern edge of the shortgrass prairie region that extends roughly west of the 100th Meridian from Oklahoma to Canada to the Rocky Mountains. Shortgrass prairie is the home to such shy animals as burrowing owls, golden eagles, swift foxes, pronghorn antelope and prairie dogs.
