High Plains, shortgrass prairie region..Kiowa National Grassland, New Mexico...The diminutive White-throated swift provides a sense of scale at the size of the immense walls of Mills Canyon above the Canadian river. The holes in the walls with whitewash are likely prairie or peregrine falcon aeries...Here, the river has carved its way nearly a 1000 feet below the flat treeless high plains on the canyon rim...(I believe the bankside vegetation is a mix between salt cedar (invasive species) and willow (a native -must check).
