Nebraska Sandhills. Shortly after sunset, a bolt of lightning is sent from a wall cloud, as an immense thunderstorm looms on the western horizon. Thunderstorms in the High Plains region are commonplace because this is where colder dryer air masses from the north and west, and warmer, moister air masses from the south collide.
