205 SALT MARSH STUDY
Arbor Lake Wildlife Management Area, Lancaster County, Nebraska. Foxtail Saltwort blows in the wind at Arbor Lake Wildlife Management Area. Located just north of Lincoln, Nebraska, Arbor Lake WMA is a 132 acre saline wetland and is considered to be among the most threatened ecosystems in the state. Once estimated to be in excess of 20,000 acres, less than 4,000 acres remain and many of these are degraded. Saline wetlands are rich in invertebrate life and are frequented by a variety of migratory shore birds, other bird species, and wildlife. Salt tolerant plants that are found nowhere else in Nebraska can be found here.
