High Plains, Nebraska. Kimball county along the NE/CO border just north of Pawnee National Grassland.

Mountain plover (federal endangered species list- IUCN Red List) on nest with eggs in fallow wheat field.

(HATCHING SEQUENCE NEXT SEVERAL FRAMES)

Since Mountain plovers prefer open or close to bare ground grasslands to nest, Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory (RMBO) pays farmers good money to locate nests in their fields before plowing. The nests are flagged and farmers plow around them.
