Lesser snow geese (Anser caerulescens caerulescens) on their way to the Canadian Arctic lift off from a Rainwater Basin wetland. Critical habitat for millions of waterfowl and shorebirds during spring migration, these shallow wetlands in south-central Nebraska fill with water from rainfall and snow melt and frequently go dry.
