Courthouse & Jail Rock- Nebraska Panhandle. Dawn's first light strikes Courthouse and Jail rocks shortly before an early June thundershower. The scene appears just as it likely did for pioneers moving westward 150 years ago. Courthouse and Jail rocks were two of the first landmarks met by westward travelers on the Oregon Trail in the North Platte River valley in western Nebraska. Several miles to the west, they would encounter Chimney Rock and Scotts Bluff.
