Nebraska Sandhills. A mallard pair gets down to business, feeding on aquatic vegetation in a sandhills wetland. Mallards are one of the most widespread and adaptable species of ducks, and are common breeders throughout the plain states. A species of puddle duck, they prefer shallow, quiet or slowly flowing waters surrounded by grasslands.
