Fort Robinson State Park, Nebraska. Like a fortress wall, Red Cloud buttes rises from the prairie in northern Sioux County. These sandstone buttes are part of the Pine Ridge, an escarpment that stretches for nearly 100 miles and forms an arch across northwestern Nebraska. Within its maze of buttes and ponderosa pine forests, twisted canyons and secluded streams, are a number of varied habitats which hold such diverse wildlife species as bighorn sheep, mountain lions, Lewis woodpeckers and prairie rattlesnakes, to name just a few.
